Can we add a Product Attribute "Type" selection?

For instance… select, radio, checkbox, switch etc. That way it would be easier to loop through attributes and build your UI presentations across all of your products. Right now it seems to require creating a separate map of attributes/UI types. :-(
Better ideas are warmly welcomed!
